Photography can be a very equipment heavy pastime and it can lead to a pretty unhealthy obsession with having the latest piece of kit. Whilst I haven't signed up to camera-persons anonymous just yet, this page could be an indication that I am not far off it.

A lot of my equipment is second hand, sourced from ebay. Some very specialized bits are ordered from Calumet. For cheap consumables/processing I tend to use mail-order suppliers like 7 day shop, IJT carts and Truprint. I am fortunate enought to have knowledgeable staff at my local branches of the high street stores Jessops and Snappy Snaps.

If I am doing a model shoot I always, always carry spare kit. This means that if a piece of equipment fails, I can keep shooting.

90% of what I shoot is digital using high quality Canon equipment:

  • Canon EOS 5D
  • Canon EOS 10D, D60 + Battery Grip (spare bodies)
  • 28-135mm,75-300mm image stabilization lenses
  • 15-30mm, 28-80mm, 70-210mm zoom lenses
  • 20mm, 50mm prime lenses
  • 50mm, 100mm macro prime lens
  • Canon 380EX Flashguns
  • Remote Switches
  • Canon G5 powershot
  • Underwater housings for the above
10% of what I shoot is film, using either 35mm or medium format and generally shot to colour slide film and then scanned. Whilst I have shot black and white and done my own processing at college, this is not my favourite part of photographic process.
  • Canon EOS 5
  • Bronica SQA + Speed Grip
  • Bronica SQ + Speed Grip (spare body)
  • 80mm, 150mm prime lenses
  • Cable Release & Clockwork timer release
I find tripods extremely useful. Every cheap tripod I have ever bought has quickly developed problems so I am now using:
  • Manfrotto 190CLB PRO + UNILOC ball head
  • Benbo Trekker + UNILOC ball head
  • Manfrotto 679 monopod + UNILOC ball head
For studio lighting
  • Bowens Esprit 250 plus stands, umbrellas, softboxes
  • Portaflash 336 plus stands, umbrellas, softboxes
  • Radio Flash Triggers and recievers
  • Bubble Machine
  • Fog Generator
  • Coloured Gels
  • Reflectors
  • Background cloths and fabrics
  • Light Tents... various sizes
  • EPSON LCD projector
Printing
  • Canon CP-300 portable dye-sub printer
  • Canon IP-6000D Inkjet printer
Scanning
  • Epson 4180 flatbed/film scanner
